This is the video release party for the song “Hey Good Lookin” by the Damon Grant Project, off of the ‘Prevailing Melodies’ album.
Tickets are limited, and available here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2951521
There will be an acoustic set performed by Damon and Mat Fernandez, then the world premiere of the video in its entirety, then a Q&A session with both Damon & the director, Grace Zinnel, on how the video was made and all of the “easter eggs”. The location (Factory Underground Studios) is also where most of the video was shot, so we will show you around “the set” 16 Isaac st. Norwalk, CT 06850. Doors at 7, show at 7.30pm. $7adv/$10door.
Damon has started a podcast (at the beginning of the year) with another great percussionist, Marcos Torres, and it’s FREE! It is geared towards all percussion players, but focuses on beat makers that aren’t necessarily drumset players (predominantly). It features conversations with the musicians who have the view from behind. Anyone who hits, scratches or shakes things for a living. There will be a featured guest, iconic recordings, product reviews, music news, listener letters and so much more. Episodes come out every Tuesday and can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, Acast, Soundcloud, and wherever podcasts are listened to. There is more content in the show notes on the Podcast Website, and you can follow these adventures on social media, like: Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram.
Damon has a cameo in Marvel’s Daredevil, season 2, episode 6. Check it out now on Netflix! Blink and you’ll miss it!
In my recent trip to Los Angeles, I went to my friend David Ryan Harris’ house. We talked and did some preliminary planning for this album release. He has a couple of other artists he is working with so we won’t be able to start my project until the summer. That gives me time to recruit and write for the album. David is still producing it (whew), and our plan is to have a “band” that features a different vocalist for each track. The lineup isn’t finalized yet, but I have gotten a few vocalists to agree to sing on it, with other guest instrumentalists pending. Here are a couple names to generate a bit of excitement.
David Ryan Harris. A great friend since meeting February of 2006, who has graciously agreed to sing on a track, as well as being the captain of this ship. I trust him emphatically, and am excited about the musical magic we will create together.
Stephen Kellogg. I have fond memories of Stephen going from door to door in our beloved dorm at Umass Amherst in the mid 90’s as he serenaded the tenants with an acoustic guitar. I enjoyed the melodies performed, as well as his attempt to sell his songs on CD, AND cassette.
I don’t want to give away all my surprises right away, but I hope that keeps you satiated for a while during the creative process begins of writing, rewriting, making scratch demos, writing again, giving up, writing some more, considering a career change, editing the rewrites, and eventually recording.
This summer has been really busy, from playing with different singer songwriters like J. Antonette, Rebecca Correia and David Ryan Harris, to a premiere with Madonna for her tour DVD release (avail Aug 27th), to playing with the Damon Grant Project, and a couple of recording sessions mixed in. Stay tuned as there are new dates being added as well as a new blog page in the works!
Come on out to the Day of Percussion, sponsored by the Spirit of America. I am honored to be one of the clinicians and look forward to seeing everyone there that is able to attend! All the info is on the flyer above or you can go here: Spirit Of America Band
